Selection Process

  1. Phase I: Preliminary exam (online, qualifying)
  2. Phase II: Main exam (online objective test plus a descriptive paper)
  3. Interview

Roughly 15 times the number of vacancies in each category get shortlisted from Prelims to Mains. The final merit list is built on 80% Mains objective marks and 20% Interview marks. The descriptive paper is qualifying only, so its marks don’t go into your final score, but you do need to clear its cut-off.

2. Practise with a timer: Attempt sectional tests and full-length mock tests to improve speed, accuracy and time management.

3. Review mistakes regularly: Identify recurring errors and maintain a record of weak topics so that revision becomes more focused.

4. Prepare for the Mains Examination early: Do not wait for the Preliminary Examination result to begin mains preparation. Practise objective questions and descriptive English writing alongside prelims preparation.
